Veronica: Hello Archie? It’s Veronica here.
Archie: Veronica, I was just thinking of you.
Veronica: Probably because you’re behind on the Delton development I was supposed to have that on my desk yesterday.
Archie: You were? I thought you said you didn’t need it until the fourteenth.
Veronica: The fourteenth? No. I said the fourth. The minister is going to be giving a speech about it on Friday so they needed the information yesterday.
Archie: Well I could work on it now if you want; but that means I won’t be able to finish the Riverdale report
Veronica: The Riverdale report isn’t needed for another week. Finish the Delton report now; I don’t care how long you have stay here, just finish it now!
Archie: Sure will do. I will do it as soon as I’ll finish my lunch or I could work on it throughout lunch if you would prefer.
Veronica: Do it. Just do it now.

Peter: Hello Chris Peter Speaking.
Marie: Hello Chris this is Marie Drummond from language express calling. How are you today?
Peter: Very well thanks and you?
Marie: Great. So I am calling as a follow up concerning the Spanish course you had inquired about. Have you thought any more about signing up for the evening classes that are starring in January?
Peter: Yes but I honestly don’t know if that’s going to work for me. Twice a week for three hours is maybe a bit too much after working all day.
Marie: I can understand that. We do have some other alternatives though. Can I tell you about those?
Peter: Sure go ahead.
Marie: We could offer you a similar rate for a semi private course instead of a group course. The difference will be in the number of hours per week.
Peter: Mm…Marie I have another call I have to take but would you write something up and email it to me to take a look at?
Marie: Certainly. It’s the same email I had already had on file?
Peter: Yes thanks. I will get back to you by the end of the week with a decision.
Marie: Perfect. Thanks again about your time.

Natasha: Hey Jake, I’ve been trying to get a hold of you for the past half hour. What’s going on?
Jake: It’s crazy the phones had been ringing nonstop for at least a month now
Natasha: Is it something happening?
Jake: No. No. Is to be expected at this time of the year it’s like a conspiracy or another definition of compressed work. I don’t know…but
Natasha: Hey listen Jake I called because I would like to know if you could speed up Lise Harmon’s security clearance. I know your division has been caught up with an overload of new requests but still it’s been two months now.
Jake: Two months
Natasha: Yes two months. I have the form right in front of me and it says March 10th.
Jake: That’s odd. That request landed on my desk only a couple of days ago.
Natasha: You must be kidding!
Jake: I am afraid not but you’re right it does read March 10th. Listen I don’t know what to say but what I can though is making sure it gets taken care of as soon as one of our agents becomes available.
Natasha: And when would that be?
Jake: I’d say no later than June 28th in about five weeks.
Natasha: Jake, that’s unthinkable! At the office we have a situation in our hands where a lot is at stake and this is where Lise comes in without her involvement the situation could resolve in a full blown crisis, media and all.
Jake: But I am reading that she already has a security status “Secret” that’s what I have here.
Natasha: Yes but she needs “Top Secret” otherwise she won’t be allowed access to the documents she needs to resolve the issue. And there’s more…our deadline before things start getting out of hand is May 30th.
Jake: That’s in two weeks! Even if I give it a top priority it still wouldn’t get done before June 5th at the earliest.
Natasha: That’s gonna put me in a very awkward position to say the least. Isn’t there anything that you can do…to make it an emergency?
Jake: Tell you what take this number down it’s the chief directors 955-7648. Mention my name and who knows he might be able to do something.
Natasha: Thank you so much Jake. I owe you one. Take care
Jake: Good luck.

– In your opinion, is the process by which people are approved for security status overly complicated? Justify your answer.
– At times, circumstances beyond our control can have a serious impact on our ability to meet deadlines. Describe a situation where this has happened and talk about how it was resolved. Would you do anything different?
